Miniature Pincushion Dolls

Miniature Pincushion Dolls

No miniature sewing room is complete without this lovely tiny pincushion
doll. Three versions of the porcelain doll, painted and ready for their pincushion skirt to be added, can be purchased for $20.00 each. This is a very easy project to make.

You will need:
Pincushion size doll
Piece of silk
Paper stock
Lace, ribbon or Bunka
Piece beading wire
Small piece of cotton or very fine sand
Tacky Glue
Scissors, tweezers
Needle and thread

Instructions:
These instructions include a pattern for both a larger and a smaller pincushion.

1. Cut the smaller circle from card stock and the larger one from fabric.

2. Hand-gather all around the fabric circle, leaving a thread to pull later.

3. Lay the fabric down, wrong side up. Place the card stock circle in the center of the fabric and *glue a small wad of cotton on top of the card stock. *Or omit the cotton and proceed to step 4 and fill the doll's skirt with very fine sand just before tightening the gathers around her waist.

4. Glue the doll over the center of the cotton ball and run a strip of glue around the doll's waist -- then pull the gathering thread tightly around the doll's waist. Make necessary adjustments to be sure the doll stands up.

5. Glue very narrow ribbon around waist; add Bunka, lace or other trim to decorate the doll.

6. Cut pins from fine beading wire. Glue into the pincushion. Dot the tops of the wire with glue (to make pin heads), then paint the pin heads the color of your choice.
